Fearless!

by Sunny on September 8, 2009 · 1 comment

We went to Gimli yesterday! Finally we had weather nice enough to enjoy the beach. It was windy and the water was whitecaps and waves… very pretty. Kinda scary for the kids though. I carried Merry out into it and she screamed and laughed and begged me to take her back. Zach tried walking out with me once but preferred to stay close to shore and look for shells. Braeden went out with me a couple of times. He is taller and the waves didn’t reach his face but he was scared, too. Matt carried him and Braeden crawled right up him like a scared kitten.

I found it a little sad that they missed out on the enjoyment. The waves were so calming and relaxing. Feeling the swell surge around you and hearing the whoosh… so rhythmic and peaceful. Something tight inside me relaxed for a while that evening. I could live by the water and be very happy! I thrive on the sounds and feel of it.

But the kids aren’t comfortable with it yet. I was struck with the fact that Braeden trusts Daddy’s strength (he let Matt hold him out in the deep water) but not his character (he wouldn’t let him put him down and just hold his hand). How true is that of my relationship with God. He leads me out into a place and I beg Him to pick me up and carry me out. How much I miss! To just be able to relax and know that He has me here for a reason. All I need to do is hang on to His hand and  trust in Who He Is… He won’t let me drown!

I have often tried to imagine what I would be like if I had NO fear. I would certainly be much closer to the woman God longs for me to become! I would have so much more exciting adventures with God and know Who He Is much deeper and He would be so much more REAL to me!

Well I am apparently not the only one who has asked this question. Max Lucado has a book called Fearless… published as of today… that asks this very question! What if you had no fear in your life? What if you totally trusted in God’s character and were able to step up to everything He has for you? How different would you be? Wow.

We all have fears, some are even debilitating. All of them hold us back from God’s best for us. Max uses his gift of storytelling and making Scripture so real to help us deal with this question and more. This is one of those books that you can read and then read again and get something new and different to encourage you! Easy to read, hard to put down, and encouragements and admonishments that go deep… you need to read this book! AND… there is even a study guide at the end so you can do it with a group!

Sorry.. this isn’t a giveaway! I’m keeping my copy, but you can get it at CBD by clicking on the link below.
