Promise Me Always |
This week’s book is called Promise Me Always and is written by Christine Lynxwiler. It’s a modern day romance about a woman who is a landscaper. I loved learning a bit about what landscapers do on a daily basis and it was a fun variation for an occupation.
What really blew this book out of the water was the voice of the main character. Written in first person, it was so real… it put me right in her head and had me chuckling out loud through the whole thing. Add to the mix a bookstore/coffee shop hangout and I could live in this story! Near the end is a poignant moment of truth revealed by God and it changes the MC. Very well done. This is a book I will read many times.
Anyway.. here is an excerpt to show what I mean…
(she is trying to invite a guy over for lunch after church)
“Hey.” Brilliant into. Strike one. “We’re having lunch.” Duh. Strike two. “I mean, we eat at Mama’s every Sunday after church, and she fixes enough to feed an army.” Now I’m implying that he eats a lot. Foul ball. “We’d love to have you and Elijah join us. Rachel usually spends Sunday afternoons with us, and Adam’s there but that’ll be all.” Well, that was a hit. More like a little dribble straight to the pitcher, but it gets the job done.
So… last’s winner of Winter Haven! We had twelve entries and I did a draw. The winner is…. Kara Elias! Yeah, Kara! If you didn’t win I encourage you to click on the link to get it! It’s an excellent book and very inexpensive through this link. (only $3.99 as I write this!)

The Dickinson one, that is,

Sigh…that would be “Dickson.” I shouldn’t be allowed to type on four hours of sleep. Or teach, but it’s way too late for that one!
This single girl would love to read a romance!!
I was surprised to see my name there! I never win anything… guess I can’t say that anymore
You don’t need to enter me into the next draw. Thanks, Shirley!!
