Just before Christmas I was wrapping presents and baking up a storm. I went to bed late Christmas Eve and as I was drifting off to sleep, thoughts haunted me.
There are some who are just glad to have a home tonight.
There are some who don’t have a home tonight,
There are some who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
There are some who will die tonight or on Christmas Day.
There are some in the hospital, very sick.
There are some alone, and lonely.
There are some scared for their lives.
I am not one of those. I am so blessed. Yet that night I was heavy-hearted for those who fit the descriptions above. I sent up a prayer and yet, felt so useless.
Then Brandilyn Collins tweeted something a couple of days ago that caught my attention. She is a friend on Twitter and (did I actually just say friend?) an AMAZING Christian writer. I aspire to write like her one day! Anyway. She has a fan whose daughter started a blog chronicling her struggles. This woman and her daughter were evicted from her apartment just before Christmas. They ended up spending nights in their vehicle. I am not totally clear on all the details but you can find out more at Brandilyn’s blog and at Katy’s blog. Be sure and check them both out!
Unfortunately, I was one of the people Brandilyn mentioned who questioned if she for certain knew this family. It is sad that we have to be so careful of being scammed. But it is very real concern. I am so glad I was able to be a small part of a very real situation. It is such an awesome story of God coming through for a family in need. We have been that family in a smaller way and He has come through for us in His quiet way. This was big and loud. Apparently NBC is contacting them. It would be so cool to see this on TV and to know that I was a part of it. Was it because of that prayer on Christmas Eve that He opened an opportunity for me to be a part of this? Maybe. I just know that I want to keep praying to be a part of whatever He is doing. Whether it’s little and seemingly insignificant or huge like helping this homeless family.
What a great way to end the year. I hope to have more stories for 2009 of God using me in whatever way He wants. I think that”s he kind of prayer He loves to answer “YES” … don’t you?
