There was a study done that says that noise is a stimulant that makes you crave other stimulants. Noise has actual physical waves that enter your body and stimulate you.

I was listening to the radio as they discussed this. The man who was being interviewed has an issue with restaurants. Back years ago they made restaurants feel like disco techs and even now the louder the place the more hot/popular it is viewed. His frustration is how that keeps us from conversing and connection with our dinner partner(s).
How can you have a meaningful talk when you can’t hear each other over the background noise and music? Tablecloths cloth napkins, rugs, and flowing curtains have been removed and are no longer available o muffle background noise and music is blasted. Add to that the simulation of the noise makes you crave more stimulants. SO in place of connecting with that other person you order another drink or the rich dessert.
Hmmmmm.
So. Think of this terms of music, TV, etc. If they stimulate you and make you reach for other stimulants… what do you reach for? How many are reaching for alcohol, drugs, sex? Or how about closer to home for many of us. How about food? Books? Internet? Facebook?
OK. Lets meddle a bit more. How about church. Ouch. So lets say I just went to a church meeting and was bombarded with LOUD “praise” music. Now I leave church and all my senses are on and craving more simulation. Where do I go with that. I know. I am stomping some toes here. I have no intention of judging, criticizing, or offending… rather just getting us to think. I have been to a couple of churches that we got up and left because the music made my kids cry. Once just from the loudness and once because they told me (as the music played) that they thought Jesus wouldn’t like the music. Does that bring Him glory?
How about the jittery feelings that happen when you turn the noise off? Doesn’t that show something?
I love the verse that says… Be still and know that I am God. Something to think about.
Please feel free to comment whether you agree or not. Just be kind and considerate.
